Don't trust TDK or Maplins !!!

I bought a few boxes of blank TDK discs. They were cheap, well 80% the
usual price, in the "special offers section" of a Maplins Electronics
store.

What a waste of my money! Most unuseable, about 5% could be (but at
only 4x speed), not even a consistent error from one to the next!

I am convinced that they came from a dud batch. Shame on TDK for not
recalling them (so shops can't still try and sell them), and shame on
Maplins for passing them off as even remotely satisfactory. This is
the second time I've bought faulty goods from Maplins, thinking I was
getting a "bargain", just because they were knocked down a bit.

Twice bitten, but no more..... I shan't use either again!

I steer clear of Maplins, anyway just thought I'd say that I only
use TDK metallic cds, they're the only disks that don't skip in
the car cd player. Never had a single coaster, probably used 250 -
300 over the last couple of years.

Blame Maplins, they suck bad.

I have used Maplins once - to get a multimeter to test my PSU. (Good thing I
did, saved me carriage to Holland from UK for repairs under warranty!) I had
no problem with them.

I'm curious, how are Maplins supposed to know the disks are bad? I would
judge the store more on whether they give you a refund without question. You
did take them back?

Send the defective discs back to TDK.

CDFreaks reviews give the TDK decent marks overall. Have you tried them
on a different burner?

I bought some TDK (total data korruption) discs on sale last year that
turned out to be absolute garbage.  They ID as being made by CMC Magnetics
(one of the bottom barrell manufacturers), and I get numerous data errors on
these as well as they don't burn at the rated speed (24x instead of 48x).

I used to hear good things about TDK, but that is no longer the case.  I'm
sticking to TY from now on.
