Did you have to start a new thread?  No.

Is a 300W PSU sufficient for your system?  I would say not.

Yeah , you need enough amps on the 3.3 5 and 12Volt rails , like 30A , 40A and 30A or so , something less is ok but not too much less , like 28 A 48A and 30A , or thereabouts .
MSI graphics card ? Have a look on the MSI forum . Search MSI ..... find something with a tw on the end and in the main website across the top will be a  selection  ,  products and about 8 other choices , move the mouse over them to about the 6th choice along and in one of them you will find Forum .
Click on Forum and register on the forum and ask there. -- xarryier ------------------------------------------------------------------------ xarryier's Profile: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/member.phtml?userid=866 View this thread: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/showthread.phtml?t=162910

A 300 watt power supply that really does provide 300 watts
would probably be sufficient.  However, how much did you pay
for it?  Less than $65 full retail?  Then suspect it is
missing essential functions and is problem not really a 300
watt supply.

Furthermore that supply could be 300 watts - but not output
sufficient watts on one key voltage.  Kony describes same when
discussing power rails.  Your answer starts by providing
wattage or current output for each voltage.  An overall 300
watts tells us little useful.

IOW with the information provided, then your only answers
will only be speculation.  Those who could really answer your
question remain lurkers due to insufficient numbers.  We don't
even know if that power supply really is 300 watts.  Even that
video card is not listed with power consumption for each
voltage.

The 5v VSB must be rated at 2.0A for LGA 775 chips and PCI Ex.

You did not mention the specific power supply make and model
but in general, I would get at least a 350W name-brand PSU
for those parts, preferribly 400W.  Seek (in a good
name-brand) at least 18A capacity on the 12V rail.  A
generic with higher rating might not be trustworthy.

Unfortunately Antec don't supply that PSU to US and Canadian markets with
Active Power Factor Correction though (unlike for the UK/European markets).
This means that a Canadian bought model will end up costing its owner more
in electricity bills during its use. Personally, I'd steer clear of a
company with such double standards because of this.

I dont' know the canadian market nor what's available where
you'd shop for a graphics card.  I like Sparkle/Fortron for
bang-for-buck but Antec and a few others would be sufficient
too, in the ~400W range I mentioned.  SInce you have a
power-hungry CPU that will tend to put large change in
current demand on the 12V rail, 'tis better to go with
400W+.

The Antec True380 I recommended in my above post has 24A on the 12v:

Yes, but it can't be compared to some other brands' amperage
because that is a peak, not sustained rating.  Note on your
link that it also shows max total combined output of 360W,
but if we give all the rails the same weighting as the spec
antec provides,

24A @ 12V = 288
35A @  5V = 175
28A @ 3.3V = 92.4
-----------------------
555W

Plus, having too small a transformer is another sign it's
not going to have good recovery time even if someone tried
to squeeze 24A out of it by lightly loading the rest.

Depends on the system?
OP has a (Prescott?) P4, I don't run those so I partly avoid
highest 12V  needs, but even so I use Sparkle/Fortron when
the price is right.  That is, I don't stick with one brand
but buy on spot prices.   Antec will work though, but
ideally higher than a True 380 when a system has such a
large variable load on a particular rail...  that's the most
difficult problem with modern systems, IMO, too many people
focus on cooling when even the retail 'sink will suffice.

I decided to take no chances when I had to upgrade from a FSP300 to cope
with my new X800 last year: I went for the True 550.

No, 300 Watts is NOT enough.  This is especially true for cheap power supply
units which are built with substandard parts.
