Maxtor 3100 USB Hard Drive not recognized in XP Pro

I'm not sure what drivers I'm searching for.  As I mentioned before, the machine it works on never prompted for a driver install when the Maxtor 3100 drive was first plugged-in.  It just worked.

On the other XP Pro system, however, when I plug the Maxtor 3100 drive in to the USB 2.0 port, Windows immediately reports that the device is not recognized. -- jjo ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jjo's Profile: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/member.phtml?userid=862 View this thread: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/showthread.phtml?t=162353

Once more. Did the drive come with a CD? All are supposed to. The CD
has the required driver. If it works on one computer but not another
then it's possible the working one has a suitable driver. You can look
in the driver section of the system panel to see what is being used,
but best bet is to install the driver that came with the drive.
