DVD ROM Problem
Tonight my DVD ROM and my DVD R/W stopped reading all types of disks, I have looked in device manager and they are both listed and it says that they are both working correctly. I updated the firmware of both drives and still they dont work. I am running XP Pro and I have just restored my system back by 2 days and now the DVD R/W is working fine but not the DVD Rom. The drive is a Liteon and is only about 6 months old with little use so I'm pretty sure the drive is not faulty. The drive is trying to read the disks but cant and I have tried all sorts of disks. Is there something I can check or do to try and solve this problem please? Thank's, John. Try going to the system folder, then device manager, and remove the DVD-ROM
from the system. Restart the computer and Windows will find it again. See if that jolts it back to use. Maybe the driver got corrupted and Windows needs to reinstall it. Then the sure way I'd check to see if it is truly a hardware problem is to go set your bios to start with the CD-ROM drive, and then place the Windows CD in the Lite-on drive. Reboot the computer and see if it starts loading the Windows files to do an installation. If it does then you know that the drive is working and most likely this is a software related problem. -- Show quoteHide quoteJan Alter bear***@verizon.net or jal***@phila.k12.pa.us "Johnny5" <johnc***@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:hRrXd.13103$ug2.9748@fe2.news.blueyonder.co.uk... > Hi, > > Tonight my DVD ROM and my DVD R/W stopped reading all types of disks, I > have > looked in device manager and they are both listed and it says that they > are > both working correctly.
