Computer freezes

Abit AN7
AMD Barton +2600
512 M Memory
Win2K Pro SP4 and all updates
SATA 80G
ATA 160G

System freezes randomly.  It may freeze soon after boot, it may run for
days.  It seems more likely to freeze under stress (scandisk, etc).
When it freezes, only a reset will get it going. but there are no log
entries to indicate a problem.

Is this most likely hardware?

I have replaces PSU, keyboard, mouse, CPU cooler.

CPU temp shows 47C, voltages are middle of range.

I do not have spare cpu or memory handy.

Thoughts?

Shows 47C all the time?  What does it show when you really get it going?

Here is something you might download and run to see if you can spot the
problem..

http://www.passmark.com/products/bit.htm

Very small file, and really loads down every component in the system with a
log of what worked and what didn't.

You will have to use the process if elimination to troubleshoot the
computer. This is not something to be speculated on. Start with the RAM's,
or the power supply, and work your way through the machine.
