windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original set up cdrom select R at the first screen.

I just formatted my system..
I have an Asus p4p800se motherboard
with a 200gb sata WD hard drive

I formatted and install windows xp pro with Sp2 build in.
everything installed fine.. all that ..

but I powered off my system completely.. turned it back on about 2hours later and got this msg..

Why is that??..
fresh install..

i tried the whole console repair thing..
doesn't work

i even installed the sata drivers during the repair setting on the winxp cd..

I haven't powered off the sys since then..

but even if that didnt work...

Any ideas?
need help!!  thanks!

Something caused corruption of the registry. You might want to try a
Repair Install

Could be anything but Ive had memory problems lately after eons of not
having any major mem problems. A neighbors PC had a bad stick of
Samsung.  And I must not have had my stick of 512 mem seated perfectly
cause it had the same symptons ------ screwy WIN XP installation.

It would crap out at various points making me thing the CD was
corrupted but I tried several of them before suspecting the mem which
showed right away with errors. My stick tested OK after reseating. The
other samsung stick didnt.
