Here is the 'secret' with tigerdirect.
If you are purchasing an item with a rebate...you need to *first* go the
their website
and print out the rebate form.
They will not send one to you with the order...but if you call and ask them
for the form...
they will keep telling you "it's in the mail" until the rebate runs out.
Because of such practices, Tigerdirect has gotten (deserveably) a bad
name...however,
since I learned their littel secret I have not had any major problems with
them

What secret?  The website specifically says to download and print the
rebate form yourself.

Do you have all the specs on all the components from Tiger?
Historically they've thrown together some pretty
questionable parts and sold them as whole systems or
barebones.  If the price is THAT much better than Dell's I
suspect you're not getting much of a bargain, if/when it
breaks down.  I'm in favor of DIY, but between Dell and TD,
Dell wins every time.

I haven't been impressed with TD's systems, but if you choose the parts
yourself I'd been pretty impressed.

Never had the pleasure(?) of buying from them but it sounds like reviews
are all over the place... read some from various places. Some customers
say good, some say horrible. What else is new. But the interesting part
is how the reviews consistantly say their customer service is terrible
and they seem to do everything they can not to accept any returns, cancel
orders, or give refunds.

I know. Just thought I'd point it out.
Try these:

http://www.anitec.ca/
http://www.ncix.com/
http://www.canadacomputers.com/

In the case of the first two, sign up for their newsletter. NCIX is a good
place to deal with, on specific items.

Hello,
I for one will no longer do any business with TigerDirect.com.
I bought a Dell laptop and an Epson printer at the same time.  I
downloaded both rebate forms, completed them and sent them off well
before any expiration date.  I got the rebate on the Epson for $30.
I did not get the $100 rebate on the Dell.  When I inquired with
TigerDirect they said I should call the number on the rebate form,
but there was no number.  TigerDirect gave me the number to call and
I never got a human to answer.  All lines were busy and I was to
leave a name and call back number.  I did this routine 3 times and
never got a return phone call.  I'm out $100 and TigerDirect takes no
initiative to help.

If you are going to use TigerDirect be prepared to pay the price for
the item and don't count on the rebate.

I have told TigerDirect to remove me from their mailings both
electronic and snail.  They said they would and didn't.  I am now in
the process of using another agency to stop TigerDirect solicitation.
As I said in my opening sentence, I personally, will never do
business with them again.

First, do you have all your ducks in a row?  Photocopies of everything?

If so, have your credit card company reverse the transaction.  As much
as TigerDirect may try to claim that the mail-in rebate isn't their
problem, the fact that they are advertising it makes them liable for it.

Buying a Soyo product from TD is the same. If you have done so and
actually got a rebate back from Soyo, consider it a miracle. There's
probably enough rip-offs to warrant class action.

I had same experience with the Sceptre flat monitor they were, and
still are,  selling.  I have written off Tiger from my shopping source
also.

Was the rebate from Tigerdirect or from Sceptre?

Then why refuse to deal with TigerDirect again?

1) It was Sceptre that screwed you
2) You weren't really screwed since you got the rebate.

You're right, except I think 5 months is ridiculous.  Maybe I can't
blame Tiger, but they sell the product and would not help me chase
down the problem.  Just gave me a toll number that Sceptre would not
answer.

Because Tiger advertises the rebate to promote the time.
Because Tiger has been known to continually offer these
rebates with high problem rates and continues to offer them
even after enough evidence has accumulated that the problem
exists.

I have only had one TD rebate rejected and it was due to "fine print" as a
number of different items were covered by the same rebate and only "one per
customer".

Rebates are totally not the responsibility of TD. The manufacturer offers
the rebate, TD advertises the rebates, but it's up to the manufacturer to
actually deal with the rebate and send the cash.

Not always true... Many of the rebates are TD exclusives,
unavailable anywhere else.  When a store advertises an item
for $X after rebate, they can't just claim the 3rd party
didn't fulfill the rebate therefore it costs more... their
obligation is to the customer for the item to end up costing
what was advertised, else they can just leave that out of
the ad.
