increase Ram on P2

hi
at present i have P2 266 Intel MB LX 440,
128 sd ram, i would like to increase RAM to 256 or 512,
but some hardware engg say that P2 dows not support
more than 128, is it true, can the RAM be increased
to 256 or 512..
pls suggest..

The Pentium 2 supports 4 GB RAM (as do all 32 bit processors). The amount of memory you can install and use is limited only by your motherboard. I had the same processor and chipset as yours running WinNT very well with 256 MB.

The CPU can only cache a limited amount of memory (512MB,
IIRC) but the motherboard itself is limited to 128MB per
slot of low density memory.  Since the typical 440LX board
had 3 memory slots you'd be limited to 384MB total using 3
modules.  Crucial.com should have some but the typical
"PC100" memory should work too...  just buy from someplace
with a good return policy if there is uncertainty.
