Transfer speed from DV cam to PC

I am wondering how long does it take for a PC
to transfer a 10 min Video CLIP from a DVCAM
to a PC assuming everything is operating as it is supposed to.
I would think that it should not take 10 mins since its
allready digital encoded nes pas ? Or does it read
the digital information on the tape the same speed
as it plays it for viewing on the dvcam.

Mine, a MiniDV Sony TRV22, simply replays in real time, and the info goes
down the FireWire connection to your DMA enabled hdd.  I suspect they all
work the same.
(I did manage to burn out its monitor speaker when doing this!  The video
was of a folk band playing a loud piece, and I had the volume set to loudest
position!)

Ok thank you for helping me on this side of the atlantic.

I was hoping that it could read the digital information
faster then the regular playback speed.

If you have a decent speed PC and a very fast hard drive the time the
tape plays is the time it takes to capture.  I have a TVR33 Sony DVD
Camcorder and firewire connections on an AMD 2800 with a 7200 200gig
Western digital hd and it takes the same amount of time.

No.

This kind of video capture from a camcorder is always in real time.
There is no shortcut.

Bye.

If you mean DVCAM the format, the transfer takes 10 min, the same
speed that it was recorded at.  If you mean digital video in general,
just about every tape-based format transfers at the same speed it
was recorded at, but disc-based formats (DVD) and solid-state formats
(SD, etc.) can transfer faster than the speed at which they were
recorded.
