Lost original remote, how can I replace it?

Hi all,
This problem has been with me for almost a full year.

My girlfriend has a TEAC TV Model CT-M5929STC.
During burglary all portable stuff like DVD, cordless phone,
VCR and ALL remotes were stolen. Her TV is ok, was too heavy.

But without the remote the TV is almost unusable and here
is why:

1) TEAC cannot supply a replacement
2) There are almost no front controls on the TV.
3) All so-called universal remotes that I tried have no TEAC TV
    codes listed.
4) Spending hours trying to locate the code by some auto-
    find methode didn't work either.
5) For learning remotes to work you must have the original
    to teach with.

Please forgive the cross-postings and reply to alt.video.dvd.tech only

Max.

Yes, but so far no replacement remote I tried will even
look at the TEAC.

Ebay has the ORIGINAL TEAC remotes. Do a search on the model number.

I have to admit, I never used EBAY and have no idea how to.

Go to http://ebay.de or http://ebay.com and click "Kaufen" or "Buy" and
follow the instructions. It's that easy.

I gave you a link earlier http://www.gocompany.com.au/ for a replacement
remote.

Don't you like that one?

I just got a quote from them, 70 bucks is almost 40% more than I intended
to spend. But if it is the genuine article I'll probably buy it.

Thanks to you and all the others who took the trouble to post back!

I've tried many universal remotes up to $50.00 , none got
any response from the TV.

It would be silly to try remotes costing many hundreds
of dollars, when a new TV WITH remote can be bought
for less than $300.00

There are a number of *TEAC* remotes for sale on ebay.com.  Have you
tried looking?

I wonder if they piggybacked on someone elses code. Try a universal remote
and go through the ON/OFF incremtal code check and see if ANY code wakes it
up.

  You could try this:
http://www.shomer-tec.com/site/product.cfm?id=9f2d8f22-3048-72de-285464a3eeead76f

it looks like it runs through the codes until you get the responce
you are looking for.

Yes I have tried some of those.
Problem is with the MENU button for the TV.
You press Menu once for brightness adjustment using
separate Up and Down buttons.

You press Menu twice for contrast adjustment using
separate Up and Down buttons.

And you press Menu thrice for contrast adjustment using
separate Up and Down buttons.

None of the universal remotes I have seen can do that.

Thanks anyway, Ken.

(Been on a trip - travel, not drugs!)

I would think that's a response of the TV to a sequence of commands,
not a response of the remote.

But I *was* wrong once before about something :-)

But if the remote does not have the first code to access the screen
controls?
The TV worked just fine with the original, which was stolen, as mentioned
above.

That's a bummer then. Have you looked at the various remote control
hacking sites? Sometimes (mostly for popular things such as Sony) they
have codes you can add to a remote, or even reference from a button, if
they're buried in the remote somewhere:

http://xi6.com/remotes/
http://www.oneforall-int.com/comfiles/flashnew.html
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/
http://www.remotecentral.com/

And more...

Warning: Navigating those sites can be hard work.

> The TV worked just fine with the original, which was stolen, as mentioned
> above.

That is a bummer too (Yes - I had noticed the comment about the burglar
earlier).

All in all, I'm pessimistic :-(
