VHS Mod ideas?

Hi folks,

I am considering starting a new project for fun, of trying to modify
either a vhs player, or equipment around a vhs player. What I need
from you are ideas for features or enhancements that I could add to
the standard VHS platform. I have already considered a digital frame
store for better freeze-frames, adding a video menu at the beginning
for scene access that would allow a computer to fast-forward to a
given scene in the movie, and the possibility of alternate audio
programs the way DVD's have always had.

What I need from you fine folks are ideas for other add-on
functionality, obviously adding DVD's strongest features for instance,
but what I'd really like to hear are features that could ONLY be done
with VHS, and especially ones that could NOT be done with DVD. An
example of this is videotape's inherent "Continue" function, which is:
that you can play part of the movie, take it out, put it in another
player, and it continues from where you left off (DVD's can't do
this).
