FINAL CUT PRO HELP!!!  ANNOYING PULSE/BEEP IN PLAYBACK!

I'm using FCP, and I'm trying to edit, but in the playback, instead of
playing the real audio - I just hear annoying pulses/beeps every half
second.

How do I turn this off, and have it play the real audio/voices from the
clip?

TIA!!!!

This usuall means you are trying to playback too many audio-tracks than you
have specified in the pre-set. Depending on your system-performance, you
can tell FCP how many audio-tracks in parallel it can playback without
problems (like stuttering). FCP will then beep if you passed that limit,
telling you to render your soundtrack.

IIRC this can also mean the clip needs rendering (if playing in the
canvas).

Check to make sure that your audio file is set at the same settings
(16-bit/48kHz) as your sequence.

And people wonder why I prefer editing on a PC.
NONE of these issues have ever come up for me with Vegas.
And I mean that sincerely.  I've done multi-track (15 or more audio tracks)
with a mix of wave files at 44.1 & 48K, mp3, wma and even mp4s and Vegas
doesn't care :-)

Mike,

FYI........I bought a MacPro 3.0 Quad Xeon, and FCP HD Studio is fast but
still slower in rendering than Vegas 7.0d on my lowly single processor 3.2
GHz P4 Dell. Both systems have identical SAT drives and 4 GB or RAM.

Thanks Smarty.  That's not good to hear.
On second thought, maybe it is.
I've been going back and forth between the Mac and a quad core on a PC.
You may have made my mind up for me.
Thanks.

Mike,

I was disappointed with the performance, since the rendering quality of FCP
/ Compressor is excellent, and I prefer it for this and other reasons if
time is NOT of the essence. Apple offers XSERVE / render farm solutions
which can speed up rendering, but the cost/performance increase is hardly
compelling.

I'm a loyal and committed user of the Mac since its inception, and I despise
the bashing and holy wars surrounding platform zealots, but rendering speed
is the only remaining penalty I have personally experienced with the latest
and best Mac and FCP suite software.

in defence of user groups, and some of the very knowledgeable people
inhabiting them, (notably in this instance mike and smarty) - where do
you actually 'test out' all the various options? borrow a machine from
your local store? pay hourly rate for studio using machine and software?

i have found the discussions among the users on this and other groups to
be my first port of call when considering any new equipment. i have yet
to be mislead by qualified advice / reviews. and at the end of the day,
have saved time and money by using other peoples experiences.

on the other hand, there's a lot of people blowing a lot of hot air out
of various orafices, but then again, you know where the smell is
eminating from....

Hmmm...Apple Stores have Final Cut Pro install on their machines for
testing out with plenty of files to mess with. Not sure why he'd need to
test Vegas if he already has it.

Mike says "NONE of these issues have ever come up for me with Vegas" as
if that should imply that NO Vegas user has ever had a problem or that
Final Cut users should expect problems. What else could he be implying
with that statement when leading with "And people wonder why I prefer
editing on a PC"?

I've had 15 tracks or more on Final Cut without so much as a hiccup. So
what? The guy who posted could just have a wrong setting, a bad drive,
forgot to do something relevant to the problem. Too bad he doesn't have
Vegas! Then there'd be no problem! :)

Time for "Vegas for Mac" then ;-) Something which could always happen with
the Macintel's by the way :-)
I thought a Dual-G4 always with seperate video-drive to be fast enough to
handle 8 tracks, but the *bleeping* thing kept bleeping, with 2 tracks from
the video, and 6 tracks uncompressed WAV (no effects). After a while the
Render Audio before preview, becomes a rather natural habit :-))

That's assuming that there's an Apple store in my immediate area.  There
isn't.
Wait a minute.  I'll drop $5,000 on a machine only to find out tha tit
doesn't meet my needs.
Yeah, right.

Leslie and I think alike.

Read my original response.  I didn't say 15 audio tracks on FCP was a
problem.  I said that 15 tracks of varying audio formats WAS a problem for
FCP and that this is something Vegas handles with ease.

Are you seriously that stupid?

Funny. That's never happened to me on a Mac. Wonder why?

hahaha.. And here they come, right on cue too.. Theres a whole crew here
of the "claim they have used mac" crowd.

p.s.  this same issue of the beeping happens on Premiere Pro too BTW
when you mis match audio files..

I think you need to render the audio first. Use the menu command
Sequence>Render All>Both and I think that will solve your problem. Of
course, let me know if I'm wrong!

I feel sure that will solve the problem.

Whether using a Mac or PC or Final Cut or Vegas it is good to
understand how the software works. If one buys a different computer it
doesn't mean you'll know how to operate the software there either.
