Dvd backup problem, pain in the ****

Hi,

I have started backing up my dvd collection as to protect the originals and
I have hit a problem which I cannot seem to find the answer to.

I am using dvd decryptor which then sends it to my HD then I am using clone
dvd to write the movie to a blank, the problem I am having is that the last
section of the backed up film is locking up and will not play, I have then
tried copying the offending file back to my HD from the dvd but it does not
like it and locks up. I have tried other software like nero 6 to write to
the dvd but with the same results.

I am on winXP SP2, meaty processor and 1 gig ram and presently ripping my
hair out, can anyone point me in the right direction or has anyone had the
same problem before.

Regards

What The
Lower your write speed to the lowest supported by the media. Also try changing the
brand of the media.

Yes, had this problem and always towards the end of the disc.   On a
hunch (using DVD Shrink) I tweaked the compression settings so the disc
was no longer than 4,300 to 4,400 Meg, and it seems to work.

Careful examination of some of the discs showed the dye on the outer
edges was a little patchy, so I assume this was the cause.

Why dont u use Decryptor to write the dvd also?  I have the same setup as
you and it works great.  I noticed that burning at 6x tends to be a bit
buggy for me...so I have started to burn at 4x.  Works like a charm.
Certain brands of disc tend to cause probs too...so as the other person
suggested..change your media brand

Good points. I do the same where I've $skimped on the media.
Also - ensure that your burner's firmware is up to date.
