Burner problem

I've got a Compaq Presario 5008SR and I just added 256 memory to the 128
that was already there.  I also added a Sony dvd/cd burner DRU-720A.
The drive seems to work ok, I put a dvd in and it played and the software
loaded fine from the drive. However, when I tried to burn some videoclips to
a dvd it seemed to be working ok until almost the end when it abruptly ended
in error. I was using the Nero3 that came with it.
Does anyone know why this happened?  It also seemed to happen when I tried
to use an external version on a firewire hookup.
Do I need even more memory?  Can my machine handle 512 ram?
Any help on this problem will be greatly appreciated, because unless I can
figure out what went wrong I'm going to yank it and stick to just cd
recording.

Nero 3? Does it still run? Try the trial version of Nero 6 at their site so
you can isolate the problem. Make sure your drive has DMA mode checked.
